Welcome and Thank You for your interest in becoming a part of ISTA’s Practitioner Directory!
As more people look for natural ways to restore their physical and emotional states of health, qualified sound therapy practitioners are in demand.
Whether your therapeutic sound technique dates back through millennia with Ayurveda mantra using voice, Tibetan Bowls, didgeridoo– more modern day tools such as tuning forks, quartz crystal bowls or advanced sound technologies, ISTA invites you to join our professional directory.
The International Sound Therapy Association has created guidelines and a standard of excellence for sound therapists. As a therapist you are invited to join the International directory by registering your background training and experience and by submitting a case study validating the efficacy of your sound modality. The submission of your case study will not only provide the validation of your level of proficiency, it will contribute to the ISTA research database proving the efficacy of sound therapies. This research will serve as a bridge to western medicine, and give medical professionals the confidence they need to refer their patients to qualified sound therapists.
If you’ve never embarked upon a case study with any of your clients—there is no need to worry! ISTA’s team of medical researchers will mentor you every step of the way.
The first Step is to submit your application for study approval. In your application you will simply describe your technique, method and goal for the study.
One of our mentors will review your application and respond to you within 7 days regarding approval and acceptance to proceed. This approval assures all important components are in place in order to execute a successful study.
ISTA complies with all medical boards throughout the world. The legal parameters set forth by these governing boards allow sound therapists to utilize their technique to relieve stress and pain.
STRESS–Medical journals are filled with research stating the underlying cause of all disease is Stress.
And, according to the AAPM—American Academy of Pain Management over $635 Billion a year is spent seeking chronic pain relief.
In a world with so many suffering from stress and pain, it will not be difficult to find subjects for your case study.
Once your study is approved, you will utilize the following forms available on this site:
- Health History
- Informed Consent
- Pain / Problem Drawing
- Visual Analog Scales
- Practitioner Notes
Feel free to contact your mentor should any questions arise during the execution of your study.
ISTA’s recommendation is for
- the length of your study to last between 6 and 8 weeks,
- the client to experience a minimum of 2 sessions/week, and
- each session to average 30-60 minutes in length.
Visual Analog Scales are used to track your client’s progress throughout the study. The client is asked at each session to make a hash mark on the line to measure the amount of stress or pain they are experiencing.
The VAS is an accepted form of measure in traditional western medical criterion. On the VAS sheet there is extra room for the client to make additional comments…Possibly they find they are obtaining an increased quality of sleep, a change in their energy levels or less irritable throughout stressful situations,….they may note they do not find it necessary to take any over the counter sleep aids–any changes in their quality of life and lifestyle changes are important to note, whether on the client VAS form or the Client notes from you, the sound therapy practitioner.
After the weeks of data collection are over, the next step is to measure the data you’ve collected.
Take a ruler with centimeter markings and measure each visual analog scale. Mark each sheet with the measurement.
Compile all measurements on a chart and determine the mean change, such as you see on the example provided.
The final step to your study is the Cover Page of your study. This is a one-page recap of everything you’ve set out to do and the final conclusion of your efforts.
Submit all the paperwork you have accumulated to support your study to ISTA mentor, and receive your listing in our Professional Directory of Sound Therapists.
You are welcome and invited to present your study at an upcoming ISTA conference. ISTA accepts applications for two types of presentation: a live lecture format, and/or in a poster board presentation similar to the example provided.
Contact us with any questions, anytime.
Thank you for being a part of the world of sound therapy and assisting many in restoring their states of physical, emotional and psychological health!
